The Helicopter Darshan Circuit for Nashik Kumbh 2027: What Is Planned and Who It Is For
What Has Been Announced
As part of the Simhastha development plan, the state government has said it wants a helicopter service running during the 2027 Kumbh to reduce road congestion and cut travel time between pilgrimage sites. District officials have been asked to identify and prepare helipad sites — reporting so far points to roughly eight to ten helipads across Nashik district near the main bathing and temple locations. The stated aims are to let elderly and mobility-limited pilgrims reach the ghats without long road journeys, to connect the Kumbh with nearby pilgrim sites such as Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur, and to move groups off the roads entirely on the busiest days.
What Is Still Undecided
The important caveats: as of now the service is a plan, not a booking. Operators, routes, seat prices, frequencies and the exact helipad locations are expected to be finalised through a public tender process, and none of those numbers are confirmed. Weather is also a genuine variable — the core Kumbh window falls in the monsoon, and helicopter operations are routinely suspended in low visibility and heavy rain. Anyone counting on a flight for a fixed-date ritual should have a road-based fallback for the same day.
Who This Actually Helps
The circuit is most valuable for three groups. First, elderly pilgrims or anyone who cannot manage the two-to-three-kilometre walk from a vehicle-restriction perimeter to a ghat on a peak morning. Second, visitors with only one or two days who want to combine the Kumbh with Shirdi in a single trip. Third, families travelling together who would rather absorb a higher cost than spend a peak day in traffic. For a pilgrim with time, a modest budget and reasonable mobility, the shuttle-and-walk arrangement will get you to the same water.
How to Plan Around It Sensibly
Treat the helicopter circuit as an upgrade you confirm closer to the date, not a foundation you build the trip on. Book your accommodation and your travel to Nashik on the assumption that you will reach the ghats by road and shuttle. Then, once the operators and fares are published — likely in the first half of 2027 — decide whether a flight makes sense for a specific day or a specific member of your group. If you are booked with an accommodation provider that arranges local logistics, ask them to add you to their notification list for when the service details go live.
