Ahmedabad to Nashik: NH-48 southward through Vadodara, Surat and Valsad, then east on NH-848 to Nashik — 550 km, 8 to 9 hours. Alternatively, train from Ahmedabad to Nashik Road (several trains, 8 to 10 hours). Or flight: Ahmedabad to Nashik Ozar Airport (limited direct, or via Mumbai).
Surat to Nashik: NH-48 eastward from Surat through Valsad to Nashik — 280 km, 4.5 to 5 hours. This is one of the more comfortable Gujarat-to-Nashik routes. Vadodara to Nashik: NH-48 south then east, 380 km, 5.5 to 6.5 hours. Direct trains from Vadodara to Nashik Road are also available and preferred by many families.

For Gujarati families preferring to fly rather than undertake the 8 to 9 hour road journey, Ahmedabad and Surat both have reasonable connectivity to Mumbai, from which the onward Nashik journey follows the routes detailed in our Mumbai travel guide. This two-leg approach, while requiring a connection, is often faster overall than the direct road route, particularly for families with senior members.
Surat's airport connectivity has expanded considerably in recent years, making it an increasingly practical starting point for South Gujarat pilgrims specifically.
Jain Pilgrimage Considerations
For Jain pilgrims travelling from Gujarat, our kitchen is well practised in Jain dietary requirements — no root vegetables, strict timing around sunset for the final meal, and careful attention to cross-contamination in preparation. For a family flying via Mumbai: airfare plus the onward journey typically runs comparable to or slightly higher than the driving cost, but saves considerable time and physical strain.

Several trains running the Ahmedabad-Mumbai corridor stop at Vadodara and Surat, from which onward connection to Nashik Road is possible via a change at Mumbai or, on some routings, via Manmad Junction. For pilgrims originating specifically from Vadodara or Surat rather than Ahmedabad, checking the direct rail options from these cities before defaulting to a road journey is worthwhile — the time saving can be significant.
